"Lady Madonna"

“Lady Madonna” was written by Paul McCartney with help from John Lennon. The song was recorded on February 3rd and 6th, 1968, it was later released as a single the same year. The piano plays a major role throughout the song. The piano part was inspired by blues/rock pianist Fats Domino. The introduction to this song is similar to “Bad Penny Blues,” written by Humphrey Lyttelton.

McCartney received inspiration for this song from his loves for the blues. He wanted to write a “bluesy” song, that was fun and upbeat a fun fact for the song is that every day of the week is mentioned except for Saturday. Lennon’s contribution to the song depicts a single mother. This mother is always working, exhausted and doing her best to take care of her child. . This is one of the Beatles five songs from their “Wings over America” tour.

"Lady Madonna" Lyrics

Lady Madonna, children at your feet
Wonder how you manage to make ends meet
Who finds the money when you pay the rent?
Did you think that money was heaven sent?

Friday night arrives without a suitcase
Sunday morning creeping like a nun
Monday's child has learned to tie his bootlegs
See how they run

Lady Madonna, baby at your breast
Wonders how you manage to feed the rest

Pa, pa, pa
See how they run

Lady Madonna lying on the bed
Listen to the music playing in your head

Tuesday afternoon is never ending
Wednesday morning papers didn't come
Thursday night your stockings needed mending
See how they run

Lady Madonna, children at your feet
Wonder how you manage to make ends meet

I don't think I've heard of this song before, either. It seems really disheartening.
